Visitation for Las Animas, CO resident, Vernon Hale will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 23, 2019 at Horber Funeral Chapel in Las Animas, CO. Cremation will follow visitation and inurnment will take place in Oklahoma at a later date.
Vernon William Hale was born November 21, 1934 to Earl and Lilly Hale in Little Kansas, Oklahoma. He grew up in Seminole, Oklahoma and attended a Country School. Vernon graduated with a master’s degree from OSU. On February 4, 1952, Vernon married Erma “June” Barrett. In 1959 Vernon moved his family to Las Animas to start his teaching career. After teaching for 30 years, Vernon retired from teaching in 1989. Vernon passed away in Las Animas, CO. on August 19, 2019 at the age of 84.
He is survived by his wife, June Hale of Las Animas, CO; daughters, Shelly Wilkins of Colorado Springs, CO, Toni (Lyle) Johnston, Melody Watters of Tucson, AZ; son, Westley Wayne (Karma) Hale of Tucson, AZ; 2 sisters, Marie and Orlene; 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Lilly Hale; and brother, Joe Hale.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Vernon’s name to the Las Animas/Bent County Golf Course.
