The 2019 Annual Lamar Days Parade route will be back on Main Street on Saturday, May 18th. Heather Morris, Lamar Chamber of Commerce Office Manager, confirmed that the route will have participants assemble along Beech Street prior to the parade and at 10am the route will travel south along Main Street and turn left onto East Cedar Street. The route will turn right/south onto Parkview Avenue leading up to the parking lot of the Municipal Swimming Pool.
Local residents have missed the tradition of the Main Street Route, detoured several years ago due to needed construction work. The decision of the route had been left with the Colorado Department of Transportation which is responsible for safety along the state roadway. Generally, a main highway, such as Highway 287 cannot be closed for over an hour and the parades were cutting it close on time in some years.
An alternative route along South Second Street had been used for the Parade of Lights for the past two years which traveled from the pool parking lot into the Enchanted Forest. The annual 9-1-1 Memorial First Responders route substituted South 6th Street for their annual September parade event, leading from Beech Street into the Prowers County Fairgrounds.
This year’s Lamar Days Parade will be led by the Royalty Couple, Doug and Linda Harbour. This year’s Lamar Days Theme is “Springing the Community Together”.
