Lamar Community College’s Jessica Medina Receives Outstanding Educator Award

Jessica Medina

Medina named the 2019 University of Colorado Boulder’s Outstanding Community College Educator Award

(Lamar, CO) – Lamar Community College (LCC) Academic Services Coordinator Jessica Medina has been named the 2019 University of Colorado Boulder’s Outstanding Colorado Community College Educator Award.

“I feel absolutely honored that I was nominated for this award,” said Medina. “So many deserving people work at Lamar Community College, so to be singled out and nominated was very humbling. I really enjoy working with the staff at Lamar Community College. This is just one more example of how great the people I work with are. They take the time to recognize someone, when they themselves are more deserving of recognition for all their hard work.”

Medina was nominated for the award, presented to educators across the state of Colorado who have demonstrated a commitment to helping students achieve their higher education goals, by LCC’s Advanced Manufacturing Navigator Susan Frankel.

Frankel, in part, said Medina was a one-woman show who assembles course schedules, manages changes to those schedules, assists adjunct instructors with needs that may have, advises students when needed, oversees day-to-day distance learning course issues by troubleshooting and resolving problems, finds coverage for instructors when they are absent and manages the college’s virtual bookstore.

“She easily does the job of two to three people at any other institution and does it all with efficiency and kindness and concern for giving the students a positive educational experience,” wrote Frankel.

“I really want our communities to know the quality of the employees at LCC,” said LCC President Linda Lujan, “Jessica’s focus on students and their success exemplifies the culture of our college. I am so pleased for her to be recognized.”

Medina was recognized earlier this month at CU Boulder’s Outstanding Colorado Student and Educator Award Night. Additional information can be found at www.colorado.edu/admissions/ocs
