One of the biggest challenges most young people face today is the lack of support and encouragement. This can frustrate them and hinder their performance. The Lamar Elks Lodge believes that we need to cheer on and help the youth of our community. They represent the future and the values we hold dear. The students of the month are one way of showing our appreciation for those who excel academically, athletically and in all other aspects of life.
The January students of the month are: Abby Griego and Damian Ramos. Abby is the daughter of Andrew Griego and Denise Lucero. Abby is a senior at Lamar High School and has a 3.8 grade point average. She is a member of the track team and qualified for an academic letter. After graduation, she plans on attending Colorado State University in Pueblo. Abby wants to major in criminology and minor in general sciences.
Damian is the son of Jose Ramos and Frankie Carrillo. He is a sophomore at Lamar High School. He is active in: football, basketball, track, DECA, FBLA, the Bully Prevention Program and the student council. Damian is the Tri Peaks League MVP cornerback in football. He has a 4.0 grade point average. After graduation, Damian plans on joining the United States Marine Corps. These students show that encouragement is good a thing. It lets them know that they can live their dreams and do anything they set their minds to. The student of the month dinner and awards are the Elks way of saying keep up the good work and we believe in you.
