Another Climb for Lamar Sales Tax Collections

October Sales and Use Tax collected in October indicates another gain in revenue as the year begins to close. City Sales Tax collected in October was up 12.4% for a $30,951 increase over the previous year at the same time. Collections for 2016 were $249,570 compared to 2017 at $280,522. Total Sales and Use Tax collections were up a generous 16.1% for an increase of $43,509 over the previous year. Collections for 2016 were at $270,314 compared to 2017 at $313,823. Use Tax collections were also up 84.08% for a gain of $14,604 over the previous year. Collections in 2016 were $17,368 compared to 2017 at $31,972.
Year to Date collections also showed an increase with City Sales Tax collected up 4.28% over the previous year for a gain of $128,836. Collections for 2016, YTD, were $3,008,788 and were at $3,137,625 for 2017. Total Sales and Use Tax collections were up 3.44% for an increase of $114,117. Collections for 2016 were $3,320,329 and for 2017 were at $3,434,447.
The 12 Retail Trade categories for Sales Tax Collections for a three year comparison were mostly improved with several holding steady to the previous year’s figures.
