Garden City Resident Dies in Bent County Crash

The Colorado State Patrol is currently investigating a two- vehicle crash, which resulted in a single fatality.

The crash occurred on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 1823 hours, on Colorado Highway 50 near milepost 406, in Bent County, Colorado.  A 2007 Toyota Camry was traveling westbound on Colorado Highway 50 approaching the rear of a 2014 Dodge Avenger, which was also traveling westbound. The driver of the Toyota attempted to pass the Dodge, but failed to do so, as the Toyota collided with the left side of the Dodge. The driver of the Toyota then overcorrected to the left, causing the Toyota to rotate in a counter-clockwise direction, and collide with a guardrail prior to traveling off the south side of the road.

The driver of the Toyota, Darryl Fenner, 27, of Garden City Kansas was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.  The front passenger of the Toyota, a 17-year-old female of Garden City Kansas was wearing her safety belt at the time of the crash and was uninjured.

The back seat passenger of the Toyota, John Fenner, 49, of Garden City, Kansas, was also uninjured in the crash.  The right rear passenger of the Toyota, Denise Fenner, 47, of Garden City Kansas, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.

The driver of the Dodge Mario Morales, 19, of Lamar, Colorado was uninjured.

Alcohol and speed are being considered as a factor in the crash. However, the crash remains under investigation.
