Members of the Southeast Colorado Art Guild (SECAG) Judging Committee have selected Radeaux, an accomplished painter, illustrator, and distinguished field ornithologist out of Pueblo, CO as the Judge for the 2016 Autumn Art Show to be held at the Shore Art Center in downtown Lamar, CO from October 25th through the 27th.
Radeaux paints the fauna of his native Colorado. The life sized images of birds and other animals are not merely idealized illustrations but explore the patterning and geometrics found in nature. Spatial relationships and comparison to stylized depictions of nature from various cultures are also part of this art. It is a style that is unique to Radeaux, a combination of detail and restraint, repetition and rhythm.
A veteran of many art exhibits, Radeaux has provided illustrations for a variety of publications. He painted the covers and created all the illustrations for the “Colorado Breeding Bird Atlas”. Radeaux mentioned in a recent email that a new “Colorado Breeding Bird Atlas” will be published with a release date of November 2016 which will contain 275 watercolor illustrations by him of Colorado’s nesting birds. As you can tell, he is an avid birder. He also lends his skills in seasonal bird surveys. He has also ran galleries and represented artists in Pueblo since the mid 70’s.
Radeaux is currently co-owner with John Wilbar of The Turf Exchange Visual Arts Center at 221 South Union Ave. in Pueblo. It is located in the Historic Turf Exchange Building, a notorious 1881 casino, dance hall and brothel. The John Deaux art gallery, which is Pueblo’s oldest established gallery since 1981, is upstairs in the building, and oversees the operation of the Art Center and also has wall space downstairs. Wilbar currently specializes in design oriented, award winning, painted furniture and sculpture. Radeaux, whose studio is in the gallery, paints birds and other life sized fauna with patterns and colors in a unique style that is becoming widely recognized and collected. This is not the first time that Radeaux has judged the Autumn Art Show and said, “I look forward coming to Lamar again.” To learn more about Radeaux and The John Deaux Art Gallery, please visit www.johndeauxartgallery.com.
