This year, the Southeast Colorado Art Guild was honored to have Radeaux from the John Deaux Art Gallery judge the annual Autumn Art Show. With Radeaux’s years of experience in the arts by being an artist first and curator of an established art gallery in Pueblo, he did an excellent job of judging from his heart and experience.
The Autumn Art Show has existed for almost half a century. This quality art show gives local and regional artists a chance to showcase their accomplishments to other area artists and to the general public. This year was no exception. The quality of the work that came from this area of the state was nothing short of amazing. From the intricate detail in the 3D artwork of natural alabaster stone, intricate small brickwork and detailed leafs and branches by Richard Hale, in his piece “Neither Tree Nor Poem“, to the beautiful and precise beadwork done by Matt Mestes on his entry entitled, “Pow Wow Jewelry”.
Many diverse entries contributed to an outstanding 2016 Autumn Art Show. Some of the talent showcased included handcrafted silversmithing by “Doc” Jones of La Junta, exquisite earrings by Patsy Oxley, beautifully detailed china paintings by several talented area ladies, the wonderful and varied media, styles and subject matter of paintings in oil, acrylic and watercolor to the incredibly detailed pencil work and India ink drawings.
This year’s show displayed an excellent showing in the Youth Category. Blake Davis’s acrylic “Warming Up” and Katie Germain’s “Cats Out of the Bag” in chalk pastel were perfect representations of the youth entries. They reflect the talent that will grow and delight the future visitors to the Annual Autumn Art Show!
Background music for this year’s art show was provided by The Nichols Family from Rocky Ford. Easy listening instrumental and mellow harmonies highlighted the evening of entertainment.
This event was made possible with help from the Southeast Colorado Arts Council and Boeken Trust.
