Doris M. Ramsel, 95, formerly of Sterling passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016 inLoveland. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 11 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Michelle Witherspoon officiating. Interment followed at RiversideCemetery.
Doris Inez was born to George and Nellie McCorkle in Woods County, Oklahoma near Alva. She was the oldest of three children, a sister, Martha, and a brother, Lloyd. She attended Primary to third grade in a one-room school in Woods County Oklahoma. The family moved near Hartley, Texas where Doris attended 4th grade – high school. She graduated from Hartley High School. She attended North Western State Teachers College in Alva, Oklahoma and West Texas State Teachers College in Canyon Texas. Doris taught for two years at Haswell, Colorado and taught math for four years at theSedgwick County High School in Julesburg, Colorado.
In Julesburg, she met and married William (Bill) Ramsel. They had one daughter, Debera Janell. The family moved to Burlington, Colorado in 1950. Their daughter LeAnn was born. In 1953, the family moved to Estes Park, Colorado and resided there until 1966. Two sons, William (Bill), and Forrest (Frosty) were born. While in EstesPark, Doris attended Colorado Teachers College in Greeley and received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in 1966. The family moved to Sterling, Colorado. Doris taught for 20 years at Campbell Elementary. She moved to Windsor, Colorado in 2012 and resided there until her death.
Doris enjoyed her family, teaching school, traveling and playing bridge. She was a charter member of AAUW in Sterling, an active member of Sterling’s Delta Kappa Gamma, Reader’s Club, and Senior Citizens Club. She served as a volunteer atSterling Regional Medical Center for 22 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sterling for 30 years. She visited twenty-six states, Europe,Mexico, Canada, and the Western Caribbean.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother. She is survived by her sister, Martha Stewart, and sister-in-law, Ellen Ramsel, her four children Debera (Darrell) Frank, LeAnn (Elbert) Venn, Bill (Cindy) Ramsel and Forrest (Dee) Ramsel. She has five grandchildren, Scott Neiberger, Bryan (Camila), Cameron Venn, Jessica (Jonathan) Miller, and Janelle Ramsel. She has two step-grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and five step great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made in Doris’ name to the Theta Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship Fund in care of Marilyn Ott – Treasurer, 14187 Summit Dr., Sterling, CO 80751.
