Healthy Gain for City Sales Tax

The January 2016 City Sales Tax report shows Sales and Use Tax up for the start of the year. City Sales Tax is up 6.15% and Total Sales is at 9.06% for a $23,461.12 increase over last year. Receipts for January are at $282,450.18.
Year to Date collections are also up for the past two months as City Sales Tax is at 6.11% for a gain on the year of $34,225.48. Total Sales and Use Tax collections are up 13.35% for a gain of $81,498.79. Total Receipts for the year to date are at $691.948.84
The tax revenue for the 12 different retail and service categories for the City of Lamar show a mix of loss and gain with some categories within only several hundred dollars from each other. All Business/Electricity showed a significant increase as did grocery sales and restaurants, while auto parts and appliances were nearly level for the three year comparison.
