Bike to Work Draws Large, Hungry Crowd

The first day of summer, June 21, 2017, coincided this year with the annual Bike to Work day, held at the Lamar Community Building. Temperatures were already in the 70s by 7am, but perhaps people around Lamar like it hotter, as 76 persons walked or pedaled to the annual event to enjoy a free breakfast, prepared by the Lamar Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
This year, there were more walkers, as evidenced by the blue tee shirts of the Big Timbers Alliance group which met at their Main Street headquarters and then trekked over, some on bicycle while others pushed a baby stroller.
Scrambed eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, juice, milk and coffee were on the menu, as well as fresh fruits, granola and yogurt for those who kept a calorie count or just wanted a cooler, lighter morning meal to start the day. Those who registered for the event will receive a free, commemorative tee shirt from the Lamar Parks and Recreation Department. This year’s attendance more than doubled those who turned out for the previous year.
