Letter to the Editor – Signatures being collected to get Proposition 195 on November state ballot

Hello, Prowers County! As many of you know, for the last few weeks I have been collecting petition signatures to get Proposition 195 on the November state ballot. A LOT of you have patiently listened to me talk about how this small change to the Colorado income tax rate, slightly increasing the percentage for those earning more than a million dollars a year, would help schools and hospitals statewide. (Prime example: Lamar’s RE-2 would get an extra million a year!)

I appreciate all those who have signed, but I also appreciate the polite and thoughtful conversations I’ve had with those who weren’t sure, or wanted to do more research first. Trust me, I think we would all be much better off if more people studied both sides of issues before taking action! But that’s an editorial for another day….

The signature collecting period will be coming to a close soon, and I am very hopeful we are going to meet the cutoff of 2% from each Senate District throughout the state. If you haven’t signed yet, and you want to, please contact me and we’ll make it happen.

Looking to the future, I hope you will read up on this ( protectcoloradosfuture.com ), and all the races and ballot measures we will be voting on this fall, then join us in the highest call a citizen can have: voting!
