Thomas Fief…July 23, 1956 – November 11, 2017

 

Graveside memorial services for Thomas Fief will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Fort Lyon National Cemetery with Pastor Rod Coulter officiating. Military Rites will be provided by American Legion Post #6 and V.F.W. Post #2411.

Thomas Dean Fief was born on July 23, 1956 in Garden City, Kansas. He departed this life on November 11, 2017 in Garden City, Kansas at the age of 61.

Tom was preceded in death by his grandparents and numerous aunts, uncles, and a few cousins.

He is survived by his parents, Orville Roy (Bud) Fief of Buda, Texas and Marie Stueven of La Junta, Colorado; five brothers, Jay Fief, Sam Fief, Dave Jacob, all of La Junta, Colorado, Don Fief of Glendale, Arizona, Dan Fief of Midway, Arkansas; and one sister, Debra Erickson of Doniphan, Nebraska. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Tom lived in Kansas, Colorado, and Texas growing up. He enlisted in the Army in 1973 at the age of 17, after his dad signed permission for him to enlist. He was stationed in Germany.  After his enlistment was up, he came home and went to work at the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Fort Lyon, Colorado.  He then worked for the Santa Fe railroad for many years.  In 1983, Tom started the Fief Company Railroad, laying and repairing rails.  Tom operated his business until 2015, then went into semi-retirement but kept busy with various interests.

Tom was a member of ABATE and was an American Legion, Son of the American Legion Riders, VFW Chaplain and helped with Bingo as well as being an honor guard.

Tom loved to hunt, fish, and entertain. He was a great cook and had recently become a firm believer in Jesus Christ and read his Bible daily.

Tom gave generously to many charities, both local and national. He would offer to do anything for anyone who was in need.

Tom, we love you, and you did get your healing.
