Stella Henderson…November 23, 1922 – October 29, 2017

Stella Henderson, age 94 and long-time Lamar resident went to be with her Lord on October 29, 2017.

Stella was born November 23, 1922 on a farm outside Paris, TX to Ernest and Irene Stricklin. She had five siblings- Lewis, Louise, Fred, Jack and Don. She met George “Speck” Henderson in Paris, TX and married him on December 7, 1942. They were married several years before welcoming their only child Stephen Eugene Henderson in 1955.

Being a mother (and eventually a grandmother and even a great-grandmother) was the joy of Stella’s life. She was a homemaker the majority of her life and thrived on taking care of her loved ones. The family moved often as Speck’s career with Tom’s Foods flourished. Later in life Stella would often joke about her many moves and kept count right up to her last move to Canon City, CO where she resided until her death.

Stella was a devout Christian and her faith was felt by all who knew her. Stella often spent time reading her Bible and was always pleased to share her relationship with God with others.

Her family remembers her as a fabulous cook and an efficient shopper- she loved to do both. She also enjoyed playing board games, card games and dominos. She played often with her family and friends. Stella was competitive and feisty and she rarely lost a game. The family spent most of these sessions giggling because Stella and Speck had very different views on how to win. Those who encountered Stella would often call her a classy Southern woman who was well mannered and well dressed.

Stella was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and husband. She is survived by her son Steve (Kyle) Henderson and by her granddaughters Kelli (Mario) Ruiz and Jill (Bob) Dunagan. She is also survived by five great grandchildren Amanda Ramirez, Tyler Ruiz, Kaitlin Dunagan, Keith Dunagan and Brody Dunagan as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. The family will have a private burial service in Paris, TX at a later date.
