Holly Commercial Club Organizing Cornhole Tournament for Sept. 23rd

All those younger years of lawn darts or a bean bag toss may pay off for some accurate throwers during the Holly Gateway Fair on September 23rd.

The Holly Commercial Club voted to host a Cornhole Tournament in connection with the newly created Holly Gateway Classics Car Show. The cost for a two-person team will be $20 and registration will begin at noon on the 23rd north of the town hall.  The tournament will start at 1pm and cash prizes will be awarded. The Holly Commercial Club is looking for volunteers to help run the event and they need to contact Rod Swisher to sign up.

Swisher reported the Bluegrass Committee is at work on the second annual, “Holly Jolly Christmas” for the community. There could be two performances to all for a greater number of people to attend and the Friday activities will be left to the Commercial Club to organize.  Saturday festivities are being worked out by the Bluegrass Committee which is already discussing musical entertainment.  On a related note, plans for a holiday scavenger hunt will be discussed for the Christmas season during the Club’s October meeting.

Aaron Leiker reported the Prowers Economic Prosperity (PEP) board of directors decided to hold their November meeting at the Catholic Hall at Noon on Tuesday, November 7th.  Leiker asked that local business owners and the general public make plans to attend the meeting which will be catered by Gary Melcher’s Backyard BBQ and Catering at $10 per plate.  The PEP office in Lamar will handle RSVP’s at 336-2384 or by email at director@prowerspep.org. Reservations will be open until November 1st.

The next Holly Commercial Club is set for Wednesday at Noon on October 4th at the United Methodist Church.
