A memorial service for longtime Lamar resident, Geraldine “Jerry” Statler will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, January 7, 2016 at the Lamar United Methodist Church with Reverend Barbara Johns-Schleicher officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Fairmount Cemetery.
Per Jerry’s request cremation has taken place and there was no visitation.
Jerry was born on January 25, 1920 at Ridgely, West Virginia to Norma C. and Hallie Mae (Vanscoy) Weakley and passed away on December 10, 2016 at the Pathways Hospice in Loveland, Colorado at the age of 96.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John C. Statler, parents, Hallie M. and Norman C. Weakley, her sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and M. Vernon Freeman; her brothers, Charles M.R. Weakley and Carl V. Weakley, sisters-in-law, Eleanor Weakley and Margaret Statler Blayney, and one niece, Jean Jeriorski.
Jerry is survived by her three children, Sharen Loree (Jimmy) Benenson of New York City; Jan Statler (Robert) Cameron of Amargosa Valley, NV and John C. (Angilynn) Statler, Jr. of Greeley, CO. She also had four grandchildren: John Tyler Statler; Marissa Beth (David) Cruz; James (Fiona) Benenson III; and Clement Chambers (Stephanie) Benenson; and nine great-grandchildren: John Bennet Statler, Weston Tyler Statler, Olivia Loree Cruz, Joshua Cruz, James Benenson IV, Sylvia Calvert Benenson, Phillip Jennings Savage Benenson and Augustin Clement Benenson and Gweneth Patricia Benenson; three nieces; Joy (Ray) Register, Leslie (John) Jenks and Kathy (John) Applin; one nephew, Steve Weakley and many friends and helpers.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Lamar United Methodist Church or a charity of one’s choice either direct or in care of the funeral home office.
