Evelyn Welch passed away on December 23, 2016 at the home of her daughter in Cullman, Alabama at the age of 84. She was born to Bernard B. Toland and Lydia (McColm) Toland on November 18, 1932 in Lincoln, NE. She grew up in Nebraska and Washington but lived most of her life in Lamar, CO. Evelyn married the love of her life, Alonzo F. Welch, Jr. on Oct. 19, 1955. Five children followed – John (deceased), Glen (Dora) of Leavenworth, KS, Victoria Welch of Cullman, AL, Valerie Norman (Michael) of Fort Collins, CO, and Joel of Denver, CO.
Evelyn’s childhood was filled with experiences which included travel and very high snow in Nebraska. Her greatest pride was in her family. Evelyn also spent a great deal of time and love helping to raise a nephew and niece, Robbie Batterton and Debbie Batterton Sharpe. In later years, Evelyn enjoyed perfecting her award-winning gardening skills, even winning the Yard of the Week award.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo Welch, her parents, Bernard and Lydia Toland, her brothers Roy, Cliff, Howard, Richard, Clarence, Beldon, Wayne, and Edward, sister Florence, and son John.
She also leaves behind her children, Glen (Dora) Welch of Leavenworth, KS, Victoria Welch of Cullman, AL, Valerie (Michael) Norman of Ft. Collins, CO and Joel Welch of Denver, CO, six grandchildren; Amie, Alexandra, Jeremy, Jason, Krystal and Travis, two great-grandchildren; Bethany Beasley and Liam Alonzo Welch. Her caretakers included daughter Victoria, Great-Granddaughter Bethany, and Brandi Cosper.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the Lamar Christian Church with the Reverend Ian Blacker officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Peacock Family Chapel. The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
