The Holly Gateway Fair Board initiated a youth cookie baking contest this year. The first annual Sweet Treat Feat was held on Saturday, September 24th at the playground gazebo south of the Old Gym.

Flyers were sent to the Holly and Granada school districts. The notice was sent home with the students a couple of weeks before the contest as this was a last minute idea.

The total number of participants was 32 with a total of 40 entries. The age categories were 3-6, 7-10. 11-14 and 15-18. There was a first, second and third place winner in each age group. The winners in the 3-6 year olds were Rex Johnson-1st place; Abby Heck-2nd place and Makynna Neugebauer-3rd place. 7-10 year old winners were Janae Frey-1st place; Natalia Garrido-2nd place and Emily Selman-3rd place. 11-14 year old winners were Damian Cantu-1st place; Connor Weisenhorn-2nd place; Nadia Cerros-3rd place. 15-18 age group winners were Shelbie Holden-1st place; Ashlyn Crossland-2nd place and Ashlyn Crossland-3rd place.

Each participant received a t-shirt. Lloyd Brown, Farm Bureau agent in Lamar and the church of Christ in Holly were sponsors of the event. Local businesses donating were Porky’s Parlor, J.R.’s Country Store, McDonalds, Subway, Burger King and Walmart.

The Holly Gateway Fair Board would like to thank all those who supported, donated and those who participated in this new fair event. We look forward to next year.
