Prowers County Sheriff’s Office
On September 10, 2012 Prowers County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a Wiley residence on a report of a theft. The home owner reported the theft of a water softener, valued at $1,050.00, from a home that was rented to Lamar Police Commander Edward David Herrera and his wife, Carolyn Patrice Herrera.
After investigating the matter and interviewing Commander Herrera, it was determined that there was probable cause to believe the crime of theft had occurred and arrest warrants were obtained for the arrest of Edward Herrera and Carolyn Herrera. The warrants were obtained on September 19, 2012. Both are being charged with the crime of theft, a class 4 Felony, and bond was set at $6,000.
Edward and Carolyn Herrera were reported to be out of town at the time the warrants were issued. Edward Herrera was contacted by the Prowers County Sheriff’s Office over the phone. Commander Herrera agreed to turn himself in but has not done so as of this date and time.

Commander Herrera is currently on paid administrative leave as of September 20, according to Lamar Police Chief, Gary McCrea. Commander Herrera was present Tuesday, September 25, for an advisory hearing before a judge from the 16th Judicial Court in La Junta.
